Living Well @ Western

Want to be well and live well at Western? We have some ideas for you. All are free opportunities to build fun, excercise or relaxation into your Western workday and to ease the stress we all feel at times. Living Well @ Western opportunities include:

Living Well @ Western is a cross-campus initiative designed to encourage and promote a wide variety of physical, cultural, and intellectual activities to improve health and wellness at Western.

In a 2015 survey of all faculty and staff, 81% of respondents said they are looking for more physical activity to be well and 59% said they are looking for new approaches to stress management. Living Well @ Western has responded by developing a series of activities (many are free), open to faculty, staff and students who are looking to be more active and reduce stress levels.

Lunch Hour Activity Classes: New Schedule - January 7 to April 12, 2019 

- There are no costs associated with Western's Living Well programming.
- Please consult the Western Wellness Calendar to be sure the session is running each week.
- Please - no animals in classes, with the exception of service animals.

Zumba with Angelica (Monday, Wednesday)

What: Zumba is a high-energy aerobic fitness class featuring movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance. You are guaranteed to have fun while improving coordination, balance, strength, and heart health.

When: Mondays & Wednesdays from 12:10 to 12:50 pm

Where: Support Services Building - Room 3101

Who: Designed to appeal to faculty, staff and graduate students of all abilities and fitness levels.

What to bring: It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing and low-grip athletic shoes. Please bring a water bottle.

Full Body Bootcamp with Ariana (Thursday)

What: A high-energy class that incorporates a variety of movement patterns that improve your cardio fitness, increase your strength, and lead to positive changes in body composition!

When: Thursdays 11:30 am - 12:10 pm

Where: Thursday - Support Services Building - Rm 3100

Who: Open to all faculty, staff and students.

What to bring: Athletic apparel and water; participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat for core exercises.

Pilates with Jan (Tuesday)

What: The series of exercises presented in this class are designed to improve core strength, flexibility, and posture while enhancing body awareness.

When: Tuesday from 12:00 to 12:25 pm

Where: Support Services Building - Room 3101

Who: Open to all faculty, staff and students

What to bring: Comfortable clothing and a yoga mat

Yoga with Jan (Tuesday)

What: This activity class focuses on breath control, mindfulness, and adopting specific postures to promote relaxation and improve the health of the mind, body, and spirit.

When: Tuesday from 12:25 to 12:50 pm

Where: Support Services Building - Room 3101

Who: Open to all faculty, staff and students

What to bring: Comfortable clothing and a yoga mat

Meditation with Sabrina (Thursday)

What: A guided meditation session that will allow you to reach a heightened level of spiritual awareness through breathing and reflection exercises. A great way to reduce stress, control anxiety, improve focus, and enhance self-awareness.

When: Thursdays from 12:15 to 12:45 pm 

Where: UCC - Wellness Education Centre - Room 76 - Fairmont

Who: Open to all faculty, staff and students looking to reduce stress and bring peace of mind, clarity and focus to their daily lives.

What to bring: Sessions do not require any equipment or special clothing

Yoga with Cassie (Thursday)

What:Need a break? Cassie will lead you through a series of Yoga movements and poses that improve posture and self-awareness, while challenging your flexibility and balance. Not only physical in nature, Yoga is great for stress management and to practice mindfulness. Namaste!

When: Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:10 pm

Where: Support Services Building - Room 3101

Who: Open to all faculty, staff and students

What to bring: Comfortable clothing and a yoga mat
