Western Cares Food Drive gears up to help Business Cares Food Drive raise record amount in 2014
The Business Cares Food Drive kicked off at Western's London Hall on Friday, Nov 28. Please join us as this city-wide food drive aims to surpass last year's total of 281,000 lbs of food raised to help support those in need in our community.
Why your Western Cares Food Drive support is needed:
The London and Area Food Bank supports over 3,600 households per month with emergency food. Last year the Business Cares Food Drive contributed over 281, 000 lb of food during the December campaign. Since 2004 the Food Bank has had a 53.1% increase in demand for support, meaning your support is critically important.
Most people use the food bank as a last resort. In fact, in 2013, 32% of families came to the food bank only once in the year for help. The majority of families came to the food bank 3.7 times a year. Only 2.4% came each month.
In addition to those who support the campaign with their donations a big word of thanks goes to the Building Captains around campus who promote the food drive in their areas. A tip of the hat also to Hospitality Services who arranged with their suppliers donations to help to kick off the campaign at Western on Nov. 28.
