Laryngomalacia is the most common congenital laryngeal anomaly. It is caused by malacia (softness) of the larynx resulting in collapse of the subglottic structures during inspiration.

The symptoms usually present in the first couple years of life, gets progressively worse over the next 6 months and gradually resolves in one year. The stridor gets worse on exertion or when supine. There is rarely any respiratory distress or apnea / cyanosis.

To confirm your diagnosis, you perform a Flexible Nasopharyngoscopy.
