Correct!

The most appropriate treatment for suspected viral infection is treatment of symptoms. This includes:

1st Line
  • antihistamines (chlorpheniramine)
  • non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (ibuprofen)
2nd Line
  • oral decongestants (pseudoephedrine)
  • cough suppressant (dextromethrophan)

You discuss these treatment options with your patient and tell the patient to return to the office if the symptoms do not resolve within 5-7 days or if the symptoms get worse.

You then pat yourself on the back for a job well done and move on to your next patient.
