Here are 15 possible questions you might have about using Educational Assistance funds to take a course at Continuing Studies.

I can login successfully and select a course, but when I hit register I get an error message.

What courses are being offered in 2013?  I want to register for a Winter 2013 course but I only see Fall courses in the list.

I am interested in the Grief and Bereavement Certificate, but don't see it on the list. Is it covered?

I am interested in taking a course that is Non Funded (NF), however, the course would help me in my job.

This is most likely a browser issue. If you are using Internet Explorer, try registering in either Firefox, Chrome or Safari. If you still encounter the same problem please call our office 519 661 3658.

Where is Continuing Studies at Western located?

The downtown campus is located on the second floor in the Citi Plaza (formerly Galleria Mall).

Continuing Studies is proud to be a bridge between Western and the community.  Our Downtown Campus in Citi Plaza is located in the heart of downtown London, a convenient and inviting environment for adult learners to come together to learn and to share ideas.  It presents a great opportunity for Western employees to network with professionals from other industries, while working toward their personal or professional goals.  Whether you prefer to learn online, or in person in one of the Continuing Studies classrooms, you’ll find that we’ve created programs and learning environments with our Western colleagues in mind. 

Who is eligible to receive Educational Assistance funding?

I have used all my Educational Assistance for this year, but I still want to take a course. What do I do?

Your Educational Assistance Limit is replenished annually.  If you wish to register for a course prior to your EA being replenished, you can pay for the course personally or check with your supervisor to explore your options.

What courses are being offered in 2013? I want to register for a Winter 2013 course but I only see Fall courses in the list.

Registration for Winter and Spring 2013 courses will begin November 1, 2012.  You will receive an email notifying you when registration is available. 

Complete course information is available on our website now to help you plan and schedule your future learning goals. Simply search for your course on our Website at www.uwo.ca/cstudies and look for the ADV or RMB icon which will identify if the course is Advance Funded or Reimbursed. You can also review the electronic Educational Assistance brochure previously emailed to all eligible employees.

 

When I attempt to register it asks me for a credit card number. I thought I didn't have to pay for these courses?

All eligible Western staff can register for any of our Advanced Funded (ADV) courses with no upfront costs providing you have sufficient funds in your Educational Assistance Limit. Contact HR extension 82194 to check your balance. To register click the Western Employees link on the Continuing Studies website (www.uwo.ca/cstudies).

If you are registering for one of the Reimbursed (RMB) courses, you must first register and pay for the course. Once the course has ended submit your grade or attendance report, receipt as proof of payment and the Application for Educational Assistance form to Human Resources for reimbursement. For further questions regarding reimbursement, please contact Human Resources at extension 82194 or visit the HR website.

I am interested in a Post-degree Diploma or Certificate, but don't see it on the list. Is it covered?

Our Post Degree programs requires application to the University and the program itself.

We do allow students to take up to 2 **Certificate courses before formally applying to the program. If you are interested in taking one of the courses, simply phone our office to register. You will need to pay upfront for these courses, however after successful completion of the course(s), you may submit your grade report to HR for reimbursement.

**Certificate programs in which 2 courses may be taken before formally applying to the program include Clinical Trials Management, Grief and Bereavement Studies and Not for Profit Management.

I am interested in taking a course that is Non Funded (NF), however, the course would help me in my job.

In the event that a course(s) has a direct correlation to your role at Western or career development, contact your supervisor to explore your options.

I registered for an ADV course and paid for it myself. Should I cancel and register in the new system?

Yes.

If you are an eligible Western employee with enough Educational Assistance funds to cover the course fee, Register for the course by logging into the Advanced Funded Registration system.

Once you have registered for the course using Educational Assistance, contact Continuing Studies and we will cancel your previous registration and refund you 100% of your course fee**.

** Please note that confirmation of your EA registration will need to be verified before the refund can be processed.

 

What is the Cancellation/Refund Policy?

Withdrawals must be made by notifying Continuing Studies in writing (fax or e-mail). Non-attendance at classes does not constitute official withdrawal.

Advanced Funded (ADV) courses:
A full refund will be given to the registrant's Educational Assistance Limit if Continuing Studies receives a withdrawal notification a minimum of five business days prior to the start date of the course. If Continuing Studies receives a withdrawal notification fewer than five business days prior to the start date, an administrative fee of 15% will be charged. In cases where an individual does not complete a course or a Continuing Studies cancellation fee is applied, registrants will be indebted to the University for the entire cost of the course paid through Educational Assistance..


Reimbursed Courses (RMB):
A refund of 85% of the course fee will be given when Continuing Studies at Western receives your withdrawal notification a minimum of five (5) business days prior to the start date of the course. After this time, fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.


I’m not sure if my registration was successful. I didn’t receive a confirmation email.

When you registered for your course a confirmation email is sent to your Western email account. If you are uncertain whether your registration was successful, please contact Continuing Studies at X85210 or cstudies@uwo.ca.

What materials are required for my course?

Course materials are listed under the course description on the Continuing Studies website. For any courses that show To be Announced or TBA, details will be forthcoming once received from the course instructor. Please check back at a later date.
