COVID-19 Update for the Campus Community

February 17, 2021 12:00 PM

Dear Western Faculty and Staff,

With recent changes in provincial COVID-19 directives, we wanted to ensure you had the latest information about campus activities.

The province-wide shutdown and stay-at-home order have now expired and the Middlesex-London region is now in the red-control level of Ontario’s COVID-19 response framework

As we announced in early January, we’ll resume in-person instruction for most courses already designated to be that way on February 21. All health and safety precautions will be in place as they were prior to the province-wide shutdown, including physical distancing limitations.

Students continue to return to residence on a staggered schedule with COVID-19 testing upon their return.

On February 22, some campus services will reopen with health and safety protocols including Taylor Library, the Western Student Recreation Centre, eateries and study spaces. For more information, please visit our What’s Open website which is updated regularly.

In the red-control level, gatherings are limited to 5 people indoors and 25 people outdoors. However, we continue to strongly discourage all in-person events and social gatherings. Classrooms with in-person instruction can operate at a maximum of 50 people with physical distancing limitations.

Some employees will be required to be physically present on campus to support students and on campus activity.  Employees not required to be on campus should work from home.

Leaders will connect directly with staff regarding any change in work assignments and Western will continue to communicate regularly with its employee groups.

Please continue to follow all COVID-19 health and safety protocols, wear a mask and complete the ‘Return to Campus’ questionnaire prior to each visit to campus. Faculty, staff and graduate students can request face coverings through their faculty or unit designated requisitioner and students requiring additional masks can email

As we continue to navigate the uncertainties of the pandemic together, please continue to stay hopeful and prioritize your well-being.

On behalf of Western’s leadership team, thank you for your ongoing commitment to adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols. The Western campus continues to be a safe environment and your efforts are greatly appreciated.
