Study Tour to Rome and Italy
The Rome Study Tour introduces students to all the highlights of the monuments and culture of Rome and Italy. Students will visit iconic sites such as the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, and the imperial palaces of the Palatine Hill. Students also visit the breathtaking remains at Pompeii and Herculaneum in the Bay of Naples, cities frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius nearly two-thousand years ago.
The is a winter-term course with preparatory meetings during the winter semester and the 3-week study tour takes place in May. Students in all years who have taken one course in the Classical Studies department are eligible to apply. The course accepts 20-25 students from Western and will begin in 2018
Study Tour to Greece
The Study Tour to Greece is a 3-week long adventure-packed course with exciting trips to Greece's most important historical sites. Students will gain invaluable firsthand experience of the history, archaeology and culture of this fascinating country.
The 3-week study tour to Greece is expected to take place in the first half of May, 2019.
Vindolanda Field School
This program is an intense and very rewarding five-week experience for university students each summer. It is designed for motivated students of archaeology, Classics, and history with some previous knowledge of the Roman world. No prior excavation experience is required as the archaeology component provides in-depth field training. Ideally, the participants will be highly motivated individuals who seek a deeper knowledge of the Roman world, field archaeology, and current research tools for understanding the past through history and archaeology.
