Western Science Chemistry 4491 Students Attend SOUSCC Conference
The 53rd Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference (SOUSCC) took place at Guelph University on March 29. This all-day conference, which started at Western in 1973, brings together chemistry students from around the province to present the results of their experiential final year research projects. In addition to the conference presentation, there are networking opportunities including a banquet and mixer. This year there were over 130 student presentations from 13 universities. Western Science had the largest representation with 22 of our own Chemistry 4491ers presenting talks/posters. The high participation can only happen because of the support of the department of chemistry, who provides the registration and supports the transportation. We thank the Faculty of Science that continues to see the value and importance of high value, critical experiential courses like Chem 4491. Chemistry 4491 is the only course that guarantees all Specialization and Honours Specialization students a research project. In addition, Jack Bowman, a graduate student in chemistry, participated as a judge and Dr. Sebastian Skaanvik, and Professor Gateman and Dr. Workentin, course coordinators, attended.
It is a pleasure to share that many of our students won talk/poster division awards that were supported by the division of the Canadian Society for Chemistry and sponsors! Please join me in congratulating:
