CCAA Trainer Renewal

Checklist

In order to maintain your trainer certification, you must renew every year. There are three mandatory renewal criteria for all CCAA trainers, and three additional requirements for SFIC trainers. Note that trainers of multiple courses must submit a renewal checklist and pay the appropriate renewal fee for each course that they teach.

Renewal Requirements for ALL CCAA Trainers

Trainer Renewal Fee

SFIC/RCET

$50.00 + applicable HST/GST for your province/territory.

  • ON/NB/NL - $56.50 (13%)
  • PE - $57.00 (14%)
  • NS - $57.50 (15%)
  • BC/MB/SK/AB/QC/NT/NV/YT - $52.50 (5%)

All other courses

$25.00 + applicable HST/GST for your province/territory.

  • ON/NB/NL - $28.25 (13%)
  • PE - $28.50 (14%)
  • NS - $28.75 (15%)
  • BC/MB/SK/AB/QC/NT/NV/YT - $26.25 (5%)

Deliver Training

Deliver a minimum of one course or workshop for which you are a trainer/facilitator in your renewal year.

Review the Trainer Agreement

The letter agreement (the “Agreement”) will confirm the terms and conditions of your contract with the CCAA.

Remember to download, print and sign the trainer/facilitator agreement signature page. Return one copy to the CCAA along with your renewal paperwork and keep the other for your records.

Optional: Insurance

This item is not required to complete the renewal process but it is highly recommended that all CCAA trainers are covered by an insurance policy, either through their employer or as an independent contractor.

Additional Requirements for SFIC Trainers

Proof of Current CPR

Proof of adult level CPR is required, first aid is also recommended, but not required for renewal.

Continuing Education Credits

One continuing education credit (CEC) is required for renewal. Please note that you must provide proof of your CECs in the form of an agenda, certificate and/or receipt. Options are below.

  1. CCAA Research to Action Conference 1 Credit/Day
    1. If you attend the last R2A Conference, you can use the credits towards your renewal. 1 Day = 1 Credit. 2 Days = 2 Credits
  2. CCAA Webinar Series. 2 Webinars = 1 Credit. (Maximum 2 Webinars)
  3. CCAA Leadership Training Workshops. 0.5 Credit/Half-Day Workshop, 1 Credit/Workshop or course. The four-day Restorative Care Education Training which is worth 2 credits.
    1. If you participate in any CCAA course in the year prior to your renewal, it counts towards your trainer renewal.
    2. Please complete the Training Request Form to request or host a course or workshop in your area.
  4. Other Fitness/Aging Related Workshops, Courses, Presentations & Seminars. Must be at least 3 hours in length to receive 0.5 Credit. 6-8 hour workshops = 1 Credit
    1. These workshops may include activity and/or aging related topics such as, but not limited to, different resources/tools to use in your fitness classes or information on specific age-related special conditions
    2. If you are unsure if a workshop, course, presentation and/or seminar will be accepted towards your renewal please contact the Certification Coordinator to discuss further.

Deliver a Refresher Workshop

These half-day workshops are offered by SFIC Trainers throughout the year at the CCAA and country-wide to provide:

  1. Updates: new and relevant research findings, best practices and changes in the SFIC program
  2. Review: Brief highlight of key information from the SFIC course
  3. Q & A: An opportunity to answer instructors' questions and to provide support to instructors in your area

FAQ

How do I complete the online portion of my renewal?

  1. Login to your CCAA trainer account
  2. Click the Renewal option
  3. Check off each renewal requirement as you complete it
  4. Submit your renewal once all requirements are met
  5. Mail proof of completed renewal requirments to the CCAA to review and approve

Do I have to renew?

Yes. The CCAA will not ship training materials and manuals to you to support your training courses unless your trainer certification is up to date. Note that maintaining your SFIC certification status can only be enforced through your employer as a condition of employment/volunteering for teaching classes. Although there is no law that states an instructor must be certified in order to teach senior fitness, there are many benefits to maintaining your instructor certification status.

Volunteer Trainers

Check with your employer or volunteer agency. Organizations recruiting and training volunteer trainers are eligible for the “Volunteer Agency License” which is subject to special guidelines. However, there is no renewal fee reduction for volunteer agencies. Please contact the Certification Coordinator for more information.
