GFAL Facilitator Renewal Information

The GFAL program is an education and exercise program designed to introduce older adults to the benefits of exercise and an active lifestyle. The CCAA trains GFAL Facilitators to deliver the GFAL 8-week program in their communities. This program helps community-dwelling older adults adopt a healthy, active lifestyle and maintain their functional mobility and independence.

About the Participant Programs 
(GFAL, GFAL Diabetes)

Length: 8 Weeks
Prerequisite(s): None
Registration Fee: $150.00 + applicable provincial tax

Program Structure:

  • Exercise sessions, twice a week
  • Education sessions, once a week
    (learn about nutrition, strengthening, stretching, and more!)
  • Two health assessments 
    (one at the beginning and one at the end of the 8 weeks)

  • Adults 55+ interested in leading a healthy and active lifestyle

GFAL Diabetes

Who should take the GFALD?

  • Adults 55+ with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes interested in the benefits of exercise and an active lifestyle


About the Facilitator Programs 
(GFAL-F, GFALD-F)

Length: 8 hours
Prerequisites: SFIC Certified
Registration Fee: $300.00 + applicable provincial tax

  • Healthy screening and assessment
  • Program evaluation
  • Adult learning concepts
  • How to run a GFAL Program
  • Administrative and marketing skills

  • Certified Seniors Fitness Instructors
  • Anyone with a fitness background interested in motivating community-dwelling, inactive older adults to become active

GFAL Diabetes Facilitator

Who should take the GFALD-F?

  • Certified Seniors Fitness Instructors
  • Anyone with a fitness background interested in motivating community-delling, inactive older adults with diabetes or pre-diabetes to become active
