Exercise Classes at the CCAA

The exercise programs listed below are offered at the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging in London, Ontario. These programs were developed as model programs for older adults. Classes operate on a 12-month or 10-month basis (the gym is closed in the afternoons in July and August). All classes are led by certified Seniors Fitness Instructors. Participants must be 55 years of age and better.

Exercise Classes Offered

Combined Fitness

A 75-minute group exercise class including accelerated walking or other cardiovascular activity, strength training, flexibility and balance training.

Dynamic Balance

A 60-minute group exercise class for the semi-independent adult. This class is designed to improve overall fitness with special attention to balance. Includes cardiovascular activity, strength and flexibility training.

Get Fit for Active Living

An eight-week education and exercise program to motivate older adults to engage in a more active lifestyle. Learn more about the Get Fit for Active Living participant program.

Strength Training

A 60-minute program that uses a combination of weight equipment, handheld weights and resistance tubing (this program should be supplemented with independent cardiovascular activity).

These 60-minute classes run for 8 weeks and are appropriate for CCAA participants, their friends, and family. Yoga improves stability and flexibilty, boosts mental health and overall well-being. Participants are required to bring their own yoga mat.

*A fitness appraisal is not required to attend this class.

CCAA Memberships and Fees

Fitness Appraisals

New participants require a fitness appraisal to measure various components of fitness and helps to identify the most appropriate exercise program. Fitness appraisals take approximately one hour to complete, and the cost is $56.50 including HST.

Program Fee Options

Please note that a three-month commitment is required for new participants.

Option 1 - Annual Payment

One payment per year. Participants can attend the class in which they are registered throughout the year.

Option 2 - Monthly Payments

Participants can pay for the block of months they will be attending, from 1 – 12 months at a time. Class choice will be subject to space availability at the time. This option reflects a 10% administration fee. Payment can be made for a block of months at a time by debit or credit card (MasterCard/VISA) or by cheques post-dated to the first of each month.

  2. We will help book your fitness appraisal.
  3. Your fitness appraiser will recommend 2 - 3 exercise classes that best suit your fitness level. Choose one of the recommendations.
  4. Visit or call our reception to complete your membership purchase.

Membership Holds/Cancellation

Memberships may be put on hold or cancelled for medical reasons by providing notice in writing, and will be cancelled at the beginning of the following month. Refunds for unused monthly portions of a cancelled annual membership will be calculated based on the monthly rate for each unused month of membership.
