Biology Thesis Day tops off undergraduate capstone course

The Biology Department held its annual Honours Thesis day on April 6th. This is an opportunity for the Honours thesis students to present the results of their independent research projects to the department. The Honours thesis is a capstone course taken by 4th year honours students, in which they conduct an independent research project. For many, it marks the transition from being a consumer of knowledge to being a producer, and many of our hours thesis students go on to professional scientific careers.

Best presentation winners from the 2019 Biology thesis day. Back (L-R): Daniel Wilsdon (Kelly Lab), Joseph Morouyosef-Abitol (Hardy lab), Charlotte Kruger (Sherry lab), Liam Brown (Simon lab) , Nadeem Rashid (Bernards lab). Front (L-R): Bianca Valente (Hill Lab), Rebecca Whiley (S. MacDougall-Shackleton lab), Dana Nguyen (Guglielmo lab).

As always the overall quality of both the science and the presentations was very high, with the broad spectrum of Biology and Life Sciences research in London well represented. Thanks to the course assistant, Stefani Tichbourne, for coordinating the day, and to all the labmates, supervisors, mentors and advisors who came out to support students (and assess their performance for their final marks!). Presentations were spread across eight rooms, and the presenters in each room voted on a best presentation winner.
