Why did you choose Arts and Humanities at Western?
I began my university career at the University of Toronto where I was mainly studying life sciences. However, halfway through my second year I decided to transfer to Western University hoping to study something other than life science. When I started my third year at Western University I was studying Social Science, however I was still considering what courses I should take and ultimately the path for my future. As someone who has always been interested in philosophy, I decided to take Professor Fielding’s Existentialism course. It was after this class that I decided I would continue to study philosophy in addition to anthropology, and haven’t looked back since!
What is one highlight of your Western experience so far?
Being able to create an academic philosophy blog. After taking Women in Early Modern Philosophy with Professor Hill I was inspired to become more involved in the philosophy community. I came to him proposing an independent study course where I would create a blog about early modern feminist philosophers, and was lucky enough that he accepted. Due to the course structure in Arts and Humanities I was able to create a course that I was passionate about, while starting a project I hope to continue in coming years.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to go to Law School after graduation.
What advice would you give to incoming Arts and Humanities students?
Have an open mind! There are so many great courses being offered- take advantage of this and explore your interests. Also, talk to the professors and participate in class, you’ll get the most out of your experience and your education!
What is the best thing about your department?
The professors. They are so helpful, understanding and have really helped me get the most out of the courses I’ve taken. They have also helped make me a better writer and find my voice!
