On Probation

On Probation

In order to understand probation, you must understand the structure of Academic Standing:

In Good Standing - a student who satisfies the minimum progression requirements for continuation of study will be eligible to continue at Western

On Probation - a student who does not satisfy the minimum progression requirements for continuation of study at Western, but who will be allowed to continue under Probation Conditions.

Required to Withdraw - a student who has not satisfied the minimum progression requirements for continuation of study at Western, and is not eligible for probation or has exceeded the maximum number of failed courses allowed, 6.0 courses, will be Required to Withdraw from University for a minimum of twelve months.

What is Academic Probation?

When a student’s cumulative average is within 5% of the minimum average required for progression, he or she is restricted to a reduced course load for 12 months. This allows the student to spend more time on each course in order to improve his or her academic performance.

Academic probation is a temporary, 12-month status. If you meet the probation conditions listed below, you will be restored to “good standing” after one year.

Those taking 3.5 or 4.0 courses in the Fall/Winter session are still considered “full-time”students and pay full-time fees. Alternatively, you may register and pay tuition as a part-time student.
