Komal Ayub is a Master’s of Management of Applied Sciences Candidate, specializing in Global Health Systems in Africa at Western University. Komal completed her Honors Bachelor of Science degree in Global Health at the University of Toronto where she learned about the social determinants of health and the impact these determinants have on healthcare systems. Her academic background and volunteer experience have provided her with the theoretical and practical experience necessary to succeed in Global Health settings. Komal’s passion for global health and underrepresented communities stems from her volunteer experience with the National Initiative for Care of the Elderly (NICE) and the Institute for Life Course and Aging at the University of Toronto. Komal’s work with NICE and the Institute for Life Course and Aging included taking research and looking for practical applications with considerations for evidence-driven policy development to promote healthy aging. Furthermore, her experiences as a student leader within her university community and work experience within the Government of Ontario have given her the drive to succeed. The coupling of her personal passion for health along with her leadership skills will allow her to succeed in a field that requires compassion, empathy, tenacity and a desire to problem solve. From the practicum experience in Uganda, Komal hopes to gain insight into policy development and implementation with regards to the aging population.
