Since 2002 Stephen Jarrett has been Legal Counsel at The University of Western Ontario, advising the University on a broad range of issues, including litigation, governance, student affairs and corporate finance.
Stephen has been a lecturer at Fanshawe College and Western’s Law School, and an instructor in Civil Litigation at the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Bar Admission Course. He is a member of the Canadian Association of University Solicitors and the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and has presented papers at the annual conferences of both those organizations. Stephen has served on the Advisory Board of the Canadian University Reciprocal Insurance Exchange. He is a frequent contributor on legal issues to the University Manager, the magazine of the Canadian Association of University Business Officers.
Most recently Stephen was a subject matter expert for the development of CAUBO’s on-line course on Understanding the University Context, Culture and Governance for Effective Administration.
Stephen received his BA from York University and his law degree from the University of Windsor. Between 1977 and 2001 he practiced law in London, with an emphasis on civil litigation and education law.
Team Size: Western has one Legal Counsel. Two lawyers in the University Secretariat provide additional support and advice on various legal matters.
