Thank you to our faculty, staff, students and alumni who, since Summer
2010, have participated in Western’s strategic communications review. We
appreciate having your perspective to better understand how we tell Western’s
story by highlighting the teaching and research that occurs on campus and the
impact that work is having nationally and internationally. Western is a complex organization with multiple identities and symbols,
which sometimes hinders our ability to communicate the impact of the University
as a whole.
Establishing
a more unified visual identity for Western will strengthen our ability to gain
greater recognition for our world-class research and teaching that is making a
difference both at home and abroad. From June to December 2011, in cooperation with Hahn Smith Design, a
communications and design firm, we involved faculty, staff, students and alumni
in a discussion about Western’s visual identity—the logos and words we use to
describe the University. We conducted online and in-person surveys, workshops and individual
interviews with close to 5,000 alumni, donors and friends, more than 3,700
students and approximately 2,000 faculty and staff members. We are grateful you took the time to respond and share your
opinions. Without this engagement, we would not have the comprehensive
perspective we require. We have now concluded the consultation process for our visual identity
review. Early in 2012, we will be revealing Western’s new, exciting and bold visual
identity on Western’s homepage. We hope you will embrace this new identity for
Western and feel pride in your connection to it. Sincerely, Amit ChakmaA Message From Our President
