W. Glenn Campbell Faculty Fellow

Purpose of the Donation:

To attract and retain top quality senior economists through establishment of an endowed fund that will provide income to supplement the salary of a faculty member through a Fellowship (approximately $30,000 annually).

The mission of the department is to provide the best undergraduate and graduate education in applied and theoretical economics in Canada, while also producing research of the highest quality. This faculty Fellowship will help to facilitate and enhance this mission in terms of teaching and research.

Donation Amount and Timing:

Dr. W. Glenn Campbell commits to provide $600,000 to The University of Western Ontario by December 31, 2000.

The donation will be endowed

The funds will be held by the University for the exclusive use of the Faculty of Social Science/Department of Economics. The amount available for spending each year will be in accordance with the University's Investment Payout Policy (Policy 2.11) as it relates to endowed funding, and which may be amended from time to time.

Use of the Donation:

This donation will establish the W. Glenn Campbell Faculty Fellow in perpetuity.

The donation will be used to annually supplement the salary of a faculty member within the Department of Economics.

Program Financial Administration:

The administration of the spending of resources provided for in this letter of Agreement will be the responsibility of the Dean of Social Science and the Chair of the Department of Economics.

Description of the Fellowship:

The objective of the W. Glenn Campbell Faculty Fellow is to retain at Western senior political economist, in order to encourage teaching and research of manifest relevance.

The holder of the Fellowship will be responsible for teaching, research and graduate student supervision within the Department of Economics. In addition, the holder of the Fellowship will provide a written annual report of all activities throughout the year.

To assure the necessary standing and ongoing importance of the W. Glenn Campbell Faculty Fellow, the individual to be selected will, at the time of taking up the Fellowship, hold an existing tenured position in the Department of Economics at The University of Western Ontario and remain in that position for the full term of the Fellowship. The successful candidate will have a proven record in his or her chosen specialization, will be well regarded in the selected field, and should have already gained a significant reputation in academic circles. The recognized strength of the candidates is intended to reinforce the department's ability to attract other scholars of high calibre and potential.

The Fellowship will be for a 5-year term, renewable at the discretion of the selection committee.

The stipend provided to the holder of the Fellowship will terminate upon completion of the term.

Selection of the Fellowship Holder

The holder of the W. Glenn Campbell Faculty Fellow shall be selected on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprised of:

- The Dean of Social Science, who will chair the committee
- The Chair of the Department of Economics
- The Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of Economics
- Two faculty members elected by the full-time members of the Department of Economics
