Assessments of the President's Leadership should focus on the criteria listed in the President's Position Profile established by the Presidential Selection Committee in 2008 and also on the President's Annual Priorities from 2009, 2010 and 2011.    For convenience, those criteria and prioritites are summarized below:

Following a wide-spread consultation with all constituencies of the university and with the university’s community partners and stakeholders, the 2008 Presidential Selection Committee sought an inspirational leader who

  • would articulate a compelling vision for Western and build its reputation nationally and internationally and who, while a consensus builder, had the courage to make transformational change
  • had strong business acumen and a commitment to fiscal transparency and accountability
  • had a demonstrable passion for Western and a commitment to students and to Western’s mission to provide the best student experience in a research-intensive university
  • had a strong public presence, and would advocate on behalf of post-secondary education
  • would build and maintain strong relationships with alumni and members of the wider community.
  • would build productive relationships with government, the private sector, and other institutions
  • was committed to openness, equity, diversity and respect, and had a reputation for integrity, decisiveness and sound judgment

Dr. Chakma’s energies in his three-year tenure have been focussed on the following priorities:

  • strengthening Western’s reputation for academic excellence, building on areas of teaching and research strength and identifying and nurturing emerging areas of strength

  • building internationalization initiatives and strategic partnerships

  • executing capital plans in support of quality and strategic growth

  • increasing fundraising activity in support of academic priorities

  • raising Western’s local, provincial, national and international profile

  • All submissions will be kept confidential to the Committee but anonymous submissions will not be considered.
