Scholarship/Bursary/Prize Award Conditions

On behalf of the Board of Governors, the Property and Finance Committee has approved the following terms of reference for new scholarships, bursaries, awards and prizes.

Doug Needham Memorial Award in Commercial Aviation (Faculty of Social Science)

Awarded to a student in any year of the Administrative and Commercial Studies program who demonstrates financial need, academic excellence and who completes an essay on "Why Study Aviation". Applications are available from the Office of Special Programs, Faculty of Social Science. Recipients will be chosen by an awards committee of the Faculty of Social Science. This award was made possible by a generous donation from Lloyd Needham in memory of his son, Doug Needham (HBA '83 - History).

Dr. Catherine Mary Copeland Medical Mentor Accessibility Award (Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Medicine)

Awarded on a one-time basis to a full-time undergraduate student in year 2 of the Medical program who demonstrates financial need and academic achievement. The recipient will continue to receive the award at the beginning of year 3 and year 4 and upon exiting year 4. If the recipient fails to qualify for the award, a new student will be selected in the appropriate year. Final selection will be made using the Weighted Honors Score Stratification by the Scholarship Committee at the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. Applications are available from the Office of the Registrar and must be completed and returned by October 31, 2000. This award was made possible by a generous donation from Dr. Catherine Mary Copeland, (MD' 76).

Jack Lambert HBA Scholarship (Richard Ivey School of Business)

Awarded to a second year HBA student with demonstrated financial need, who has a career interest in the retailing industry, is enrolled in Retail Marketing 411, and exhibits academic excellence (minimum A average). Applications are available at the Ivey Business School HBA Program Services Office and the deadline for applying is June 1. This scholarship is made possible through funding provided by Douglas M. Lambert HBA'69, MBA'71 and is endowed at Foundation Western.

Scholarship/Prize/Award Revisions

On behalf of the Board of Governors, the Property and Finance Committee has approved the following revisions to the terms of reference for scholarships, buraries, awards and prizes.

Harry & Gudrun Sharma Award in Pharmacology & Toxicology (Faculty of Graduate Studies, Biosciences Division, Pharmacology & Toxicology)

Change in value from $1,000 to $2,000.

Wilhemina and J. Gordon McIntosh Graduate Scholarships (2) (Faculty of Graduate Studies, Social Sciences Division, Geography)

Change in terms from: Two scholarships of approximately $400 each are awarded annually for high academic achievement. To be given to Honors graduates or to students who have completed graduate degrees with distinction in the Department of Geography at the University of Western Ontario.

To: Awarded annually for high academic achievement (minimum 80% average) to students enrolled full-time in the Graduate Program in Geography. These scholarships will be awarded to graduates in Honors Geography at The University of Western Ontario or to students who have completed graduate degrees with distinction in the Department of Geography at The University of Western Ontario. Please contact the Graduate Program in Geography for further details

The Ivie Cornish Memorial Fellowship (Faculty of Graduate Studies, Social Sciences Division, History)

Change in Terms from: Graduate fellowship in History valued at up to $3,000 a year. Applications should be submitted to the Chair, Department of History by March 15.

To: All incoming and continuing students enrolled full-time in the Graduate Program in History are considered for this fellowship, awarded annually in December. A minimum "A" average is typically required. Although MA students are eligible, Doctoral students are given preference. No application is required. The Graduate Awards Committee in History will make the selection from eligible candidates. Contact the Graduate Program in History for further information.

Harold Johnson Memorial Scholarship in Medieval Philosophy (Faculty of Graduate Studies, Arts Division, Philosophy)

Change in value from $600 to $750 (Donor has increased annual amount)

The Carswell Company Limited Prizes (3) (Faculty of Law)

Change name to: Carswell Prizes (3)

Change the wording of the donor recognition line in the terms to read: Established through the generosity of Carswell.

Carswell Company Limited Entrance Scholarship (Faculty of Law)

Change name to: Carswell Entrance Scholarship.

Change the wording of the donor recognition line in the terms to read: Established through the generosity of Carswell.

Due to the withdrawal of courses from the curriculum, i.e., Applied Math 212a, Math 027 and 206a/b, the following three revisions are necessary:

Jake Greydanus Applied Mathematics Prize (Faculty of Science)

Awarded to the student with the highest combined average in Applied Mathematics 200, [Delete 212a,] 213b. Established by family, friends and colleagues in memory of Jake Greydanus.

Randal Cole Scholarship in Mathematics (Faculty of Science)

Change in terms from: Awarded annually to a student entering second year of an Honors Mathematics Program who, in the opinion of the Mathematics Department, has the best academic performance. The student must obtain an "A" in Mathematics 027 or its equivalent.

To: ...must obtain an "A" in Calculus 050a/b and 051a/b.

Leland Ritcey Scholarship (Faculty of Science)

Awarded to a second year student with an outstanding performance in the principal courses of one of the Department of Mathematics honors programs. Preference will be given to a student with an overall "A" average in Mathematics 202a, 203b, 204a, 205b, [Delete 206a/b,] 207a/b.

Charles Drake Undergraduate Student Awards in Medicine (Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Medicine)

Change in effective date from: 2000-2001 to 2004-2005
To: 1999-2000 to 2003-2004

Dickson Laird Bursaries (2) (Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Medicine)

Change in value from $1,800 to $2,250 each.

Hideo Saito Memorial Award (Faculty of Music)

Change in value from $300 to $500

The Gary Spilsted Memorial Prize (Faculty of Music)

Change in terms and value from: Awarded annually to the student who has achieved the highest marks in Music 026E and has completed all first year requirements in the Faculty of Music. Books and Scores of a value of approximately $50.

To: Awarded annually to the student who has achieved the highest marks in Music 026F and has completed all first year requirements in the Faculty of Music. Books and Scores of a value of approximately $100.
