FOR INFORMATION

Scholarship and Award Conditions

On behalf of the Board of Governors, the Property and Finance Committee has approved the following terms of reference for new scholarships, bursaries, awards and prizes.

Kenneth F. Pownall Memorial Scholarship (Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Dentistry)

Awarded to the Qualifying Program student with the highest academic standing in the second year of the Qualifying Program. The School of Dentistry will select the recipient annually. This scholarship was established through Foundation Western by a generous donation from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario to honour the memory of Dr. Kenneth F. Pownall, the former Registrar of the College from 1965 to 1990.

Kenneth Colling Awards in Medicine (3) (Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Medicine)

Awarded to an undergraduate student in any year of the Medicine program based on academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. Applications can be obtained from the Office of the Registrar and must be completed by April 30. Final selection of the recipient will be made by the Undergraduate Medical Education Office. These awards were established by a generous gift from the estate of Dr. Kenneth Colling through Foundation Western.

Professor Elaine Bjorklund Scholarship (Faculty of Social Science, Geography)

Awarded to an undergraduate student in year 2 or higher in the Geography program with a minimum 80% academic average. Preference will be given to international students from Hong Kong or to students from any country with an ethnic Chinese background, and then to students from any country with an Asian background. Applications can be obtained from the Department of Geography and must be submitted by October 31. Selection of the recipient will be made by the Chair of the Department of Geography. This scholarship was established through Foundation Western by a generous donation from Cecilia Yau in honour of Professor Elaine Bjorklund, through Foundation Western.

Diana Beattie Exchange Scholarship (Faculty of Arts)

Awarded to a student in any year of any program in the Faculty of Arts, who is participating in an authorized international exchange program, based on academic achievement. Selection will be made by the Faculty of Arts Scholarships and Awards Committee in conjunction with the Exchange Coordinator in the Office of the Registrar. This scholarship was established by a generous gift from Ms. Diana Beattie through Foundation Western.

Value: 1 at $2,500 annually

Mildred I. Walker OSOTF Award (Faculty of Health Sciences, Nursing)

Awarded to a nursing student who is entering the final year of the Undergraduate Program, who demonstrates a strong dedication to nursing, with a special commitment to and high academic achievement in community health nursing, and who has demonstrated a need for financial aid. Applications can be obtained from the Office of the Registrar and must be completed by October 31. Established by friends and colleagues in honor of Mildred I. Walker.

This award is funded in part with donations from the Province of Ontario through the OSOTF program.

Rosslyn Kelly Swanson Arts Scholarships (2) (Faculty of Arts)

Awarded to students in any year of any program in the Faculty of Arts who have achieved a minimum 80% average and demonstrated financial need. Applications are available at the Office of the Registrar and must be completed by October 31. Final selection will be made by the Faculty of Arts Scholarships and Awards Committee.

Value: 2 at $2,000 annually

Dr. Cameron Wallace Graduate Student Award in Pathology (Faculty of Graduate Studies, Pathology)

Awarded annually to a graduate student who is in second year or beyond of a MSc or PhD Pathology program based on academic achievement (minimum 78% average) and research work. Eligible students must complete an application with details of their marks in graduate courses, publications and presentations at scientific meetings. Applications can be obtained in the Department of Pathology and must be completed by April 15. The Graduate Education Committee in the Department of Pathology will select the recipient. A student can receive this award only once. This award was established in memory of Dr. Cameron Wallace by generous gifts from alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the Department of Pathology at U.W.O. through Foundation Western.
