Conclusion: Our Quest This Report is fundamentally about making choices for The University of Western Ontario that will help to secure its future as a distinguished research-intensive university. More than anything else, the Report recognizes the importance of trusting and investing in Western’s people, and thus urges a concentration of institutional attention on the recruitment and retention of the most talented, promising, and accomplished researchers, teachers, members of staff, and graduate and undergraduate students. It also recognizes that this must be done in a financially constrained and increasingly competitive environment. The goals set out in the Report require that all of Western’s people share as fully as possible in developing and directing our common future. They also require our willingness to identify and enhance existing strengths within the University, and, equally, our willingness to identify and develop emerging and new areas of endeavor that we believe will be our future strengths. Let us commit ourselves as a community to working with pride and determination to enhance Western’s stature as a research-intensive university and to furthering the quests embodied in our motto: Veritas et Utilitas.
