Fostering Diversity
As part of the mandate of the Teaching Support Centre, we are committed to offering an opportunity for discussion of diversity issues as they affect teaching at this university. This includes facilitating understanding and awareness of diversity within the student body and among faculty and how this affects classroom dynamics. We are forging links with the Office of Equity Services www.uwo.ca/equity/and the Office of Student Disabilities www.sdc.uwo.ca/ssd/. We are keeping abreast of the latest research and development in this area and adding resources to our book and video library that reflect this concern. Race, sex, class, age, disability, sexual preference, and cultural background are all of concern as our university community becomes increasingly diverse. As well, the office is particularly interested in facilitating mentoring of female faculty.
As part of the Office's programs, we offer sessions at our Spring and Fall Perspectives conferences directly concerning diversity matters, and inclusion of diversity topics in our courses on university teaching. We make our resources available to any faculty member who wishes peer consultation on this matter, or to departments or units interested in educational workshops.
