Course Description

532 - Levinas and Derrida: The Ethics of Deconstruction - The reading seminar will undertake a close critical reading of selected works by both Levinas and Derrida. The objectives of the seminar are: 1) to become familiar with the work of Levinas and its importance to French Continental thought; 2) to examine the influence of Levinas on Derrida; 3) to explore Derrida’s critical reading of Levinas and its role in the ethical turn in Derrida's own work; 4) to consider the ethical consequences of deconstruction and its importance to political issues.
