Course Description
9202 - A Discourse of Violence, Narratives of Trauma
This seminar is designed for a mix of students from Anthropology, Theory, possibly Media Studies and Women Studies. We will examine ethnographic works on pain, violence, trauma, etc. and the extent to which the local and the global merge in these experiences and in the marginalization of "dangerous citizens" within the context of broadly separated nation-states. E.g.: E. Valentine Daniel, Charred Lullabies Nena Pangouria, Dangerous Citizens First Nations residential school experience Ramazan Aras on Kurds in Turkey (recent UWO dissertation) Elaine Scary on pain.
