I was born and grew up in the city of Harbin in Northern China. For reasons which I am still trying to define today, I moved to Canada at the end of 2001. I started working in the Lawson Health Research Institute a month after my arrival. My interest in research started in my last year of university. I happened to have a chance to attend a one-day symposium in Genetics. I was fascinated by the development of Molecular Biology technology, and how it can be applied to health care. I pursued my post-graduate study in Genetics. I have been working in this field since then.

To me, the wonderful thing about research is that you never know what you will find. That aspect fascinates me until today.
