fellowship program

The Hand and Upper Limb Centre, Hand Therapy Division offers an intense six-month hand and upper extremity rehabilitation fellowship program. It is the only hand therapy fellowship program of its kind in Canada, and has been active since 1997. This program is available for interested and motivated licensed occupational therapists or physical therapists. Our program is specifically designed and individualized for entry-level therapists or experienced therapists who desire additional academic and clinical hand and upper extremity expertise. Emphasis is placed on studying anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, pathology, and functional utilization of the upper extremity. The hand therapy fellow works in conjunction with both plastic and orthopaedic surgeons in a hospital setting. Significant priority is placed upon clinical training where the hand fellow will evaluate, problem-solve and implement treatment programs. The hand fellow also has the opportunity to attend surgeries, visit our near-by functional capacity evaluation centre, observe upper extremity cadaver video, attend cadaver dissections, as well as attend in-service continuing education programs and our Hand Therapy Journal Club.
