Donating to our research programs:
The surgeons at the Roth | McFarlane Hand and Upper Limb Centre provide complex surgical care to patients from the London area and from across Canada. In addition, as faculty members at Western University, they teach medical students, surgical residents and post-residency Clinical Fellows from all over the world. The Roth | McFarlane team conducts research in orthopaedic tissue biomechanics and prosthetic implants, wound healing, cancer, infection, Dupuytren's contracture and reconstructive (micro)surgery. We also have an active clinical research program looking into the outcomes of our surgical procedures in an attempt at improving our treatment protocols.
Although the Ontario health care system generally provides prompt and modern medical services, there is a serious shortage of funding for research and education. Therefore, the Roth | McFarlane Centre has established a fund to receive donations for assistance with our research programs. Regular contributions to this fund are made by our staff and in the past many of our patients have generously supported this fund.
Our research is conducted in four major directions and we have four specialized areas, including the Clinical Laboratory, the Bioengineering Laboratory, the Cell and Molecular Biology Laboratory and the Surgical Mechanotronics Laboratory. A more detailed description of our labs can be found here. Support for this cause with a gift of any amount would be greatly appreciated by all of us here at the Roth | McFarlane Centre.
Research donations to benefit the academic programs of the Roth | McFarlane Centre can be made to Foundation Western to benefit the James Roth Chair in Musculoskeletal Measurement and Knowledge Translation, or via the SJHC Foundation to benefit the Roth | McFarlane Clinical Excellence Fund, which provides funding for projects in research, education or the provision of specialized medical equipment that advances research knowledge and/or clinical practice.
