Working
As a graduate student in Canada you are allowed to work for up to 10 hours per week. For many students, these hours will be taken up by a Graduate Teaching Assistanceship (GTA) through your department. Contact your supervisor or departmental graduate secretary for information on GTAs.

On April 27, 2006, Citizenship and Immigration Canada launched the long awaited Off-Campus Work Permit Program, a new initiative which allows international post-secondary students, such as those at Western, to apply for a work permit to work off-campus. You can learn more at the Student Development Centre's International Student Services Website.

Spouses of students must obtain a work permit in order to work in Canada. If your spouse is travelling with you to Canada, he or she can ask about obtaining a work permit upon entering Canada.
