1. Complete module requirements

Check the online calendar. If your module has changed during your time at Western, check previous versions of the online calendar as well.

2. Complete breadth requirements

3. Complete essay requirements [courses ending in E/F/G/or Z] ¹

My 2.0 essay courses [1.0 must be a senior course; senior courses are numbered 100 or 2000 and higher]

4. Complete a minimum of 13.0 senior courses for a 4-year degree; 8.0 senior courses for a 3-year degree. [Senior courses are numbered 100 (old numbering) or 2000 (new numbering) and higher.] No more than 7.0 first-year courses, including advanced standing credits, can be counted towards your degree.

5. Complete 20.0 courses for a 4-year degree; 15.0 courses for a 3-year degree. [Do not count courses labeled RNC or WDN, and do not count any failed courses (F or mark less than 50%).]

6. Meet minimum requirements for specific type of degree:

Honors: minimum 70% modular average in Honors Specialization or in both majors; cumulative average of 65% (all courses); minimum of 60% in each course in the module(s); minimum of 50% in all other courses used towards my degree
4-year or 3-year: minimum 60% modular average in each module; cumulative average of 60% (all courses); minimum of 50% in all courses used towards my degree

7. Complete requirements for a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree

Honors or 4-year degree: 11.0 Science (or Basic Medical Science) courses required2; 14.0 course maximum in one subject area
3-year degree: 8.0 Science (or Basic Medical Science) courses required; 9.0 course maximum in one subject area

Science (or Basic Medical Science) courses include those in Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Astronomy, Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Computer Science, Differential Equations, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, History of Science, Linear Algebra, Mathematics, Physics, Planetary Science, Statistical Sciences. In addition, courses offered by the Departments of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, History of Medicine, Medical Biophysics, Microbiology and Immunology, Pathology, and Physiology and Pharmacology can be used to fulfill the Science requirement.

One of the requirements of a BSc Degree is to take a maximum of 14.0 courses in one subject area. So what constitutes a Subject Area?

Actuarial Science; Astronomy; Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Earth Sciences; Environmental Sciences; Physics; Statistical Sciences - are all separate subject areas. Courses in Applied Mathematics, Calculus and Mathematics belong to the same subject area – the subject area of mathematics.
