Incentives for Domestic Graduate Enrolment

The Faculty of Science has several scholarships and awards meant to assist faculty in the successful recruitment of graduate students. Applications should be submitted (to the associate dean graduate) by graduate chairs using the following form:

OGS Recruitment Awards

  • One-time recruitment Ontario Graduate Scholarships of $15,000
  • New MSc and PhD students are eligible
  • Students holding NSERC awards are not eligible
  • Criteria: research productivity or potential of the student

Dean’s Doctoral Scholarships

  • Scholarships for new PhD students
  • NEW: $8,000/year for one year
  • Students holding other awards (NSERC, OGS) are not eligible
  • Criteria: research productivity or potential of the student

Graduate Entrance Scholarships

  • One-time entrance scholarships of $2,500
  • MSc and PhD students are eligible
  • Students holding other awards are eligible
  • Criteria: research productivity or potential of the student

Incremental Supervision Awards

  • Grants to supervisors to enable support of incremental domestic students
  • PhD students and MSc students are eligible (PhD preferred); new students holding major 
awards (NSERC, OGS, Doctoral) do not qualify
  • NEW: $8,000 per year for two years (one year for 1-yr MSc programs)
  • Criteria: 

    • the research productivity or potential of the student

    • supervisor's current non-year-X supervision count compared to program average

Undergraduate Pre-thesis Awards

  • Summer research stipends for Western or non-Western undergraduates completing years 3 or 4 (NEW: priority to students who will begin graduate program in September)
  • $4500 matched by at least $1500 from supervisor
  • Criteria:
    • the research potential of the student
    • research project with scope to develop into graduate work
    • 
submitted application to graduate program if in 4th year

    • priority to probationary faculty and/or faculty with above-average supervision counts
