They have already survived the first round of elimination out of 155 candidates. Now Dr. Kathleen Hill of the Biology Department and Dr. Stephen Hicock of the Earth Sciences Department are part of the remaining 71 hopefuls for TVO's Best Lecturer Competition.
Dr. Stephen Hicock has won the 2002 Faculty of Science Outreach Award and one of the six prestigious Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) Teaching Awards in 2003.
Hicock is known as an engaging teacher with a positive attitude who continually incorporates any resource and the latest research results into his course material. You can view his lecturing style via this video from the TVO website.
Dr. Kathleen Hill is the recipient of the 2006 Faculty of Science Outreach Award. She has always regarded teaching and outreach to be very important aspects of being part of the faculty and has advocated the development of her students communication skills by, "bringing in as many undergraduates and graduates as possible to use their talents and skills in teaching. So I often do some of the things that are the facilitator." Her skills as an effective lecturer are evident in this video from the TVO website.
