IT Connections 2006

By Iwona Ciesielka
This year, the Science Career Services office initiated a new event targeted at Computer Science students. In order to replace the former Connected Career Fair, IT Connections, a partnership between the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering was born.
Fifteen companies, offering computer-related positions, were invited for the first IT Connections event. This new format was more of a networking fair, with high cocktail tables and bar stools, munchies and punch in a much more intimate setting. Each company had increased one on one time with students, as a group of approximately 150 students from Computer Science, Computer and Electrical Engineering attended the event.
Students greatly enjoyed the smaller setting, having time to engage in actual conversations, which led to interviews the very next day in some cases. Employers also praised this event for not having to bring large bulky displays but rather being able to visit with students for a 2 hour window, which was much more pleasant than a large, busy, loud, bustling career fair.
