Internship Program - Employers

Benefits for Employers

"While 3M Canada uses the Internship Program to pre-screen future employees, the Company has also seen immediate benefits from the contributions students make to ongoing research programs during their internships."

Bev Burns / Darryl Klassen, Ph.D.
3M Canada Company

  • Academically well-qualified 2nd or 3rd-year students who bring practical/field experience to their Internship placements
  • Extended work term (8-16 months) allows students to participate in projects from beginning to end
  • Interns are regarded as regular employees, taking on responsibilities far beyond the typical duties assigned to a 4-month co-op or summer student
  • Upon returning to Western, Interns act as ambassadors of the sponsoring employer
  • Ontario Employers who hire students in "degree-related work opportunities" are eligible for the Co-operative Education Tax Credit (CETC).

Western provides the best student experience among Canada's leading research-intensive universities.
