On behalf of Dean, Michael Strong
and all members of the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, I want to
extend to you a hearty welcome to our graduate and postdoctoral training
programs. I believe you have made a very sound decision in joining our group of
over 500 graduate students and 130 postdocs. We are here to ensure that your
graduate studies and postdoctoral training will more than fulfill your goals
and objectives and will provide you with
a solid foundation for your career progression and development. We are very
proud of the accomplishments of our graduate students in all of our 12 graduate
programs. Over 30% of our graduate
students are successful at obtaining external scholarship support for their
studies. In addition, virtually all of our MSc and PhD students , publish their
research findings in strong peer review journals and thus not only receive
advanced graduate training during their degree programs but also contribute
directly to the overall research productivity, innovation and discovery that
the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry is so proud of. Our Postdocs are among our most productive
trainees. We value our Postdocs research skills, creativity, independence and
fully appreciate their integral contributions to advancing the Schulich School
of Medicine and Dentistry’s research and discovery mission. You will find a very strong
support network in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry that is
available for all graduate students and postdocs during their time with
us. Each of our graduate programs is
headed by a program chair and a graduate studies committee. Each graduate
student in all our programs will have an advisory committee along with their
supervisor that are available to help guide the student through their studies
to a productive and successful conclusion. We are working closely with the
School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies to provide our Postdocs with clear
and consistent appointment procedures, orientation packages, and access to
mentorship and career guidance opportunities. In addition, my office is always
available to assist you in any way that we can to make sure your training
experience in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry is “as good as it
gets”. I look forward to meeting each and everyone one of you, learning about
your research projects and all the important discoveries that you will make
during your time with us. Thank you for
choosing our programs for training. Make the most of this opportunity. Sincerely, Andrew J. Watson PhD. Associate Dean of Graduate and
