What is Happening on campus? 

 

Teaching Assistant Training Program – January 18, 2013. A hands-on, 20 hour session (over 2.5 days) taught by current (TAs). new Learn about fair grading practices, diversity in the classroom, lecturing, using audio-visual and giving students feedback on written work, among other topics. Choose from concurrent sessions designed to meet your specific discipline-related teaching needs such as vocal health for lecturers or using small group discussion methods in the classroom.

Winter Conference on Teaching – January 26, 2013. A day of workshops to continue learning about effective teaching, and become re-energized for a second term in the classroom. Session topics will include: Establishing a Presence in Online Teaching, Supporting Students with Varied Spatial Reasoning and Great Ideas for Teaching with Technology.

 

Graduate Affairs Updates:

 

London Health Research Day 2013: Call for Abstracts –March 19, 2013 at the London Convention Centre, 8:00 a.m. - 4: 30 p.m.  Dinner and Gala event to follow. Students and trainees wishing to participate in the poster or platform sessions can submit abstracts before February 1, 2013 online.

Student Publications of the Month- We are celebrating the talent and accomplishments of our students by showcasing selected publications each month. Congratulations Nicole Lauzon-Anatomy and Cell Biology; Jessica Esseltine--Physiology & Pharmacology; Ian Lobb- Microbiology 7 Immunology; and Kevin Skoblenick- Anatomy & Cell Biology.

LEDC Presents Escaping the Ivory Tower: Schulich Graduate Career Series -    These workshops take you through the process of identifying transferrable skills, understanding needs of the labour market & finding strategies for succeeding in a non-academic job search. Session #4 will focus on marketing yourself effectively.  January 12th, 2:00 p.m.


Funding Opportunities:

  

CTN Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards: The CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network (CTN) is pleased to announce the 2013/2014 competition. Each award is worth $50,000 plus up to $5,000 in travel allowance on expenses claimed. Application deadline in January 31, 2013

Pursuit Award in Child Disability: The award recognizes PhD students for their outstanding achievements in childhood disability research.  Up to three prizes will be awarded in any year (First Prize: $7,500; Second Prize: $2,500; Third Prize: $1,000). The nominations must be received by: February 1, 2013

Autism Research Training Program: The goal of ART is to recruit and train outstanding researchers in the field of autism, in disciplines such as genetics, brain imaging, epidemiology, neurology, psychiatry, psychology and others.  Funding begins at $20,000. Application Deadline is March 8, 2013.

Fulbright Canada: Runs a wide range of programs that support exceptional Canadian students and scholars who wish to study, do research, or lecture in the United States.
