Description:

The goal of the UMDF Research Grant Program is to identify and fund research (spanning basic to translational to clinical) that is best positioned to impact the development of treatments and cures for mitochondrial disease.

The UMDF has established the following research categories and priorities for its research grant program: Basic Science - Projects which contribute to the basic understanding of mitochondrial science and mechanisms of pathogenesis; Translational Research - Projects which contribute new tools for advancing basic research from the benchtop to the clinic, especially novel cellular and animal models and Clinical Research - Patient-centered projects which explore means of achieving improved diagnoses, the understanding of the natural history of specific mitochondrial diseases or the development of therapeutic approaches for treating mitochondrial disease.

Application Details:

The application process consists of a Letter of Intent and a Formal Proposal. Letters of Intent of greatest interest and scientific value for projects in conformance with UMDF goals will be invited to present a formal proposal.

NO INSTITUTIONAL INDIRECT COSTS ARE PERMITTED

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
