The purpose of the E.W. Al Thrasher Awards is to improve children's health through medical research, with an emphasis on projects that have the potential to translate into clinically meaningful results within a few years. The Thrasher Research Fund is open to applications that address a variety of significant pediatric problems. Both incidence and severity are considered when determining the significance of the proposed topic. The Fund supports research both within and outside the United States. The Concept Paper is a three page document that enables the Executive Committee to assess how well the proposed research fits with the Fund?s interests. The three pages will be read together, although the Structured Scientific Summary is directed to the scientific members of the Fund?s Executive Committee, and the Structured Lay Summary is directed to the non-scientific members of the Committee. |

Application Details: |
Ideal applications for the E.W. 'Al' Thrasher Award address significant health problems that affect children in large numbers and offer the potential for practical solutions to these problems. Such solutions should be innovative and have the potential for rapid and broad applicability with low financial and/or technical barriers to implementation. Hypothesis-driven research is given priority over exploratory, hypothesis-generating research. The Fund uses a two-step process for E.W. Al Thrasher Awards. The first step is the submission of a Concept Paper. These concept papers are reviewed by the Fund's staff and Executive Committee. Applicants whose concepts generally fit with the current priorities of the Fund are invited to submit a full proposal. Concept papers should be emailed as a Microsoft Word attachment to martinezaf@thrasherresearch.org.INDIRECT COST OF 7% MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE PROJECT BUDGET |

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission. |
