This initiative is focused on effective solutions to promote early childhood development and long-term human capital formation in the face of poverty. This Request for Proposals seeks investigators to participate in a consortium to estimate the global economic impact of cognitive underdevelopment as a result of these poverty-related risk factors: malnutrition, infection, poor management of pregnancy and birth complications, and a lack of cognitive stimulation and nurturing. The consortium will include investigators with primary affiliations to organizations based in low- or middle-income countries. A consortium manager is also being sought through this call. |

The Saving Brains initiative has significant transformational potential to unlock the potential of individuals and communities and, over a generation, help to break the cycle of poverty that has entrapped so many developing countries. Completed letters of intent must be electronically submitted to Grand Challenges Canada via email to savingbrains@grandchallenges.ca by December 12, 2011, 11:59 p.m. (ET).INDIRECT COSTS OF 13% MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE PROJECT BUDGET |
NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission. |
