Description:

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada's (OPC) Contributions Program, which was established in 2004, provides funding for cutting-edge privacy research and public education and outreach initiatives in Canada. The Program also aims to increase awareness and understanding among individuals and organizations across Canada of their privacy rights and obligations.

The Program's objectives are to capitalize on existing research capacity in academic, not-for-profit and other sectors, to generate new knowledge, and to support the development of expertise in selected areas of privacy and data protection. Please view the Sponsor website for more information on their four priority research areas. The Office will continue to provide public education and regional outreach funding as part of the 2009-2010 Contributions Program.

Application Details: To stimulate research in addressing knowledge gaps and to provide guidance for policy development and best practices, the Sponsor encourages research proposals that address privacy issues in the following four priority areas. However, the Office will also consider requests to fund research on issues that fall outside these areas. 1. National Security 2. Identity Integrity & Protection 3. Information Technology 4. Genetic Privacy & BiobankingApplications are available on the Sponsor website. Please complete them electronically or by hand. The Sponsor does NOT accept applications by email. Print and sign forms before mailing to Sponsor.
NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
