This program will fund research across the four CIHR research themes (biomedical, clinical, health systems services, and population health) that has the potential to have a significant impact on maternal, reproductive, child and youth health outcomes according to the mandates of the participating CIHR institutes. Ultimately, the program aims to strengthen Canada's capacity and knowledge to respond to challenges and needs by providing important early career development support to researchers in these fields.

The objective of this funding opportunity is to build research capacity by supporting early career investigators in initiating and conducting independent research in the area of maternal, reproductive, child and youth health. The CIHR contribution must be matched at a minimum of 1:1 by the successful applicant's host institution and/or other partner(s), such as a charitable organization, philanthropic foundation, or industry partner.

Application Details: The Nominated Principal Applicant (NPA) must be an independent researcher appointed at an eligible institution (see Institutional Eligibility Requirements for eligibility process and associated timelines) At the time of the application deadline, the NPA must meet all of the following eligibility criteria: a.Have held an independent research appointment for a period of less than 60 months. Been awarded operating grant funding of less than $500,000 Canadian dollars in total as a Nominated Principal Investigator (or equivalent role in non-CIHR competitions) through a competitive process. Have at least 50% protected time for research. If applying to the IIPH funding pool, the NPA must self-identify as Indigenous to Canada (i.e. First Nations, Inuit, or M?tis).The application process for this funding opportunity is comprised of two steps: Registration (April 17, 2018) and Application (May 15, 2018). Your application will be submitted via researchnet but is not part of the e-approval process. Required signatures: Signatures must be included for all applicants (except collaborators), and individual(s) with signing authority from the Institution Paid. Original signatures are not required. The scanned signed signature pages and the Routing Slip must be uploaded in the Print/Upload Signature Pages task in ResearchNet prior to submitting your application.
NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
