Description:

Partnered by The CIHR Institute for Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) in partnership with Heart and Stroke (H&S) and Hypertension Canada (HTC), the mandate of the Chair is to optimize the generation and application of knowledge to focus on improving the awareness, prevention and control of hypertension. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve this by interaction and engagement with international partners, federal and provincial health care agencies, food industry, health care providers, the community at large, and others. The Chair will interact with and enhance current Canadian programs, identify gaps in hypertension prevention and control, and develop new policies, programs and interventions as necessary.

The maximum amount for the Chair is $195,000 per year for up to five years for a total of $975,000 to support one Chair. Of this $195,000: $100,000 is available as salary support; and $95,000 is available as a research allowance. This award may be renewable.

Proposals must be relevant to the promotion and support of research that improves hypertension prevention and control in Canada and throughout the world. Research activities must be focused in CIHR?s Research Theme III. Policies, programs and interventions that take into consideration the study of at-risk populations and special populations (e.g., Aboriginal/indigenous, children and youth, ethnic sub-populations, lower socio-economic groups), as part of a broader research program, are strongly encouraged.Required signatures: Signatures must be included for all applicants (except collaborators), and individual(s) with signing authority from the Institution Paid. Original signatures are not required. NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval.
