Subject Areas: Traumatic Brain or Head Injury
Description:

The CIHR Catalyst Grant program provides seed money, on a short-term basis, to support health research activities which represent a first step towards the pursuit of more comprehensive funding opportunities.

The specific objective of this funding opportunity is to encourage Canadian investigators to develop novel screening tools and techniques, or novel applications of existing tools or techniques for the early detection, diagnosis, evaluation, patient management and stratification following mild traumatic brain injury. CIHR and its partners will provide funding for applications that are determined to be relevant to the area of mild traumatic brain injury and focusing on one or more of the following: Discovery, development or validation of brain-specific biomarkers and related neurometabolic or bio-signature compounds (e.g., autoantibodies, serological or cerebrospinal fluid markers, protein fragments, etc.); Discovery, development and validation of novel imaging tools and techniques related to the identification of underlying neurobiological/neuroinflammatory processes and/or neuroanatomical substrates; Discovery, development or evaluation of rapid and effective early treatment, management and patient stratification strategies.

Application Details:

Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) will not be considered through this program. For projects of a high risk nature, the potential for great scientific gain should offset the risk of failure. There should be minimal or no overlap with other funded work.

The application process for this funding opportunity is comprised of one step: Application. Your Application must be submitted using ResearchNet. Scan and upload the signed signature pages including the routing slip in the Print/Upload Signature Pages task in ResearchNet prior to submitting your application. To complete your Application, follow the instructions in the Grants - ResearchNet "Application" Phase Instruction Checklist along with any additional instructions found under "Specific Instructions".

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
