In general, team grants support expert teams of talented and experienced researchers carrying out high-quality research on important health issues best addressed through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach. These teams provide superior research training and mentorship environments, and support the production of new knowledge and the translation of research findings into improved health and health care.

The Programmatic Grants in EGCD will support research examining at least one environmental and at least one genetic component, and how these components interact to contribute to chronic non-communicable disease. Programmatic grants will support a series of innovative, conceptually linked research projects executed by a group of investigators. The series of projects (i.e. the program of research) must advance our understanding of how environment-gene or environment-microbiome-gene interactions contribute to chronic, non-communicable diseases, including chronic immunologically-related diseases, and chronic metabolic diseases. The research programs supported by these grants will span beyond what a typical operating grant could accomplish, allowing applicants to incorporate their findings into the field at large, and build upon each other?s research. These grants MUST support interdisciplinary programs of research involving a diverse group of collaborators (including, but not limited to, basic scientists, geneticists, microbiologists, environmental scientists, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and social scientists) and build on existing research platforms where possible.

Application Details: CIHR Team Grant proposals will be evaluated as a single, integrated entity. While each research component included in the application must be meritorious, it is critical to demonstrate that the CIHR Team Grant brings added value, in terms of the approach to improving the health of Canadians or strengthening the Canadian health care system.Full Applications upon invitation only.
