To contribute to the creation, dissemination and use of health-related knowledge, and to help develop and maintain Canadian health research capacity, by supporting original, high quality projects proposed and conducted by individual researchers or groups

The OOGP is the largest of the open calls for proposals within CIHR's programming. CIHR recognizes that the creativity, skill, and insight of individuals and self-assembled teams lie at the heart of the research enterprise. The pursuit of excellence in research, as evaluated through the peer review process, inspires ideas that drive progress and ensures a continuous flow of fresh insights. Through the OOGP, CIHR aims to fund the best ideas in Canadian health research today. If at the time of application any of the Principal Applicants do not have an eligible position as an independent researcher (verified by the position titles and start and end dates listed in the sections of the CCV under the headings ?Employment? and ?Academic Work Experience?, then they must include a letter from their Institution confirming they will have status as an independent researcher by the start of OOGP funding (see "Important Dates" above). ** REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 01 February 2013 ** The application process for this funding opportunity is comprised of two steps: Registration and Application.Your Application will be submitted using ResearchNet. Scan and upload the signed signature pages including the routing slip in the Print/Upload Signature Pages task in ResearchNet prior to submitting your application. This Funding Opportunity participates in the eApproval process. This means that when the applicant submits their application, it will be electronically directed to the Research Institution for review and approval. The eApproval process allows Administrators at a Research Institution to review and electronically approve applications for which the applicant has identified their institution as the Institution Paid. Once the applications are reviewed and approved by the Research Institution, they will submit the applications electronically to CIHR on behalf of the applicant. When completing the application on ResearchNet, detailed instructions on the eApproval process are available in the "Electronic Approval tool for Research Institutions - Applicant's Guide" under the Project Details task.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
