The FHS Tri-Council Development Grant is a $3,000 Development Grant for any FHS faculty member who is the Principal Investigator (PI) on a planned Tri-Council research grant funding application to CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC.1 Funds may be used for any activities that support the preparation of the grant submission. Examples include:
o Hiring a Research Assistant to help prepare the grant application
o Convening a meeting with co-applicants and collaborators Who is eligible for this initiative?
- Any FHS faculty member who is eligible to hold a research account at Western and the PI on an application submitted through FHS and Research Development & Services at Western
- To be eligible, proposals must be submitted for internal peer review by a panel of FHS reviewers
- Each FHS faculty member can access this initiative only once per year
- Applications submitted through another Faculty at Western, or through another university are not eligible

Application Details: |
What is the submission process?
a. The PI submits the Tri-Council Development Grant Application at least three (3) months before the RD&S internal deadline for signatures on the final application
b. The PI submits a complete copy of the application to the FHS Research Officer at least three (3) weeks before the RD&S deadline
c. This copy is distributed to a team of FHS peer reviewers who will review the application and provide the investigator with feedback and recommendations within 2 weeks.
d. The PI revises the application and submits the final copy for signatures, accompanied by the required ROLA form in time to meet the RD&S and funding agency deadlines |
NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission. |
