Description: |
The Explore Program aims to support unconventional and highly innovative research projects that could strongly impact the drug discovery process. Explore is designed to fund early concept validation of cutting edge technologies, computational tools, novel approaches, techniques and devices that address the most crucial needs in drug discovery and/or development. Step 1: Interested applicants must apply for a username/password to submit an application by August 28, 2015 to CQDM (ebergeron@cqdm.org).
Step 2: Pre-Screen
Applicants must submit a full application by September 4, 2015 (using the form available on CQDM and OCE?s websites at www.cqdm.org and www.oce-ontario.org). The sections 1-3 in this full application include a summary/impact analysis/innovative aspects that will first be assessed by a selection committee composed of members from CQDM?s Explore Advisory Committee and OCE representatives (for projects based at Ontario academic institutions). This committee will select approximately 15-17 applications which will be reviewed in their entirety and from which the final selection of funded projects will be made. This pre-screen selection will be based mainly on the project?s potential disruptive impact on the drug R&D process.
Step 3: Notification to screened applicants by November 2015
Step 4: Final Selection of awarded proposals January 2016 (research agreement must be signed by April 2016). |

Application Details: |
The application involves two stages, and LOI and Invited Full Proposal.
Research grants awarded through the Explore program will be administered by CQDM for projects
based in Quebec and CQDM/OCE for projects based in Ontario. An electronic version of all Quebec and Ontario applications must be submitted on CQDM?s secure site by September 4, 2015 at 5:00 PM. The signed application form should be in PDF format. The file must be identified as follows: Last name of PI_Explore 2015.
Please note: an institutional signature is required from Western RD&S. ROLA deadline is Aug 28, 2015 at 5PM. A full copy of the application must be emailed to researchoffice@uwo.ca.
Eligible costs:
-Salary of research personnel necessary for the project (students, post-doctoral fellows, and technical/professional assistants);
-Material and laboratory supplies including services provided by third party suppliers necessary for the realization of the project;
-Travel expenses (field work and collaborations);
-Administrative costs (overhead), up to 15% of the eligible research expenses.
Non-eligible costs:
-Equipment or facilities (purchase or rental);
-Salary of the principal investigator and co-investigators.
For projects funded by CQDM and OCE, a funding agreement will need to be signed between OCE and the Ontario-based research entity(ies) within two months following the final selection announcement (before March 31, 2016).INDIRECT COSTS LEVIED AT 15% |

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission. |
