Description:

BioFuelNet Canada is hosted by McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. BioFuelNet Canada is supported by the Government of Canada through the Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) program. BioFuelNet Canada (BFN) is a network that mobilizes academic and industrial partners towards the goal of achieving sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective biofuels. Through the establishment of partnerships between academia and industry stakeholders, the network focuses on real-world issues, with the goal of technology commercialization.

To inform BFN's stakeholders of the best sources of biomass available for biofuel production, BFN aims to initiate long-term dedicated energy crop growth trials in three geographic locations in Canada. BFN is requesting applications from qualifying applicants and their partners (see Section 8 for details). Successful applicants' projects will be integrated into one of BFN's multi-disciplinary technology platforms, and ultimately be paired with the most appropriate conversion process. Successful applicants will be expected to actively participate in their assigned technology platforms.

Application Details: The overall objective of BFN is to facilitate development of biofuels and bio-derived chemicals, and to create a realistic roadmap (over a 10-20 year timeline) for the rapid deployment of these technologies with a long-term objective to produce 25% of the fuels used in Canada. Within 5 years, the goal will be to identify, and begin to implement, the best practices and technologies, and to guide policy, research and development in order to achieve the long-term objective. There are three $200,000 grants available; each grant provides $50,000 per year for 4 years (2014-2017). One grant will be allocated per selected climate zone (see Section 4 ). Applications must contain the four items as listed on the CALL and be received by email (in PDF format, except project budget) by 5 pm Eastern Standard Time on Monday, December 1, 2013. Please email to: xiaomin.zhou@mcgill.ca with "BFN CALL FOR PROPOSALS" in the subject line.
NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
