Description:

The MITACS Network of Centres of Excellence will offer funding for up to 35 projects led by postdoctoral researchers. Projects should be focused in the mathematical sciences and directed towards one of the following MITACS themes: Biomedical and Health, Environment and Natural Resources, Information Processing, Risk and Finance, Communication, Networks and Security. The project is led by a postdoctoral researcher in conjunction with a faculty member of a Canadian university who is eligible to hold tri-council funding.

The partner organization is expected to provide a cash contribution of $20,000 per year, as well as an in-kind contribution; there is no specified minimum but the nature of the in-kind support will be used as part of the adjudication process. The non-academic partner must: be an end-user of the research, be based in Canada, provide a cash contribution of $20,000 to MITACS towards the project. MITACS will not release funding until partner funds have been received.

Application Details: This is an opportunity for recent PhD holders to gain experience in taking leadership of research projects and to develop collaborations with non-academic organizations. MITACS is soliciting proposals for two types of projects: Industrial Projects and Strategic Projects.You must have received your PhD for no longer than 5 years by the proposed start date of the project in order to be eligible. Please note, if your project requires ethics/animal care/biohazard approval, you will need to provide supporting documents WITH your application. Applications must be submitted online on the MITACS website. Two letters of support are required. Please see guidelines for more details.
NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
