Description:

MITACS Elevate is a pilot program designed to ensure that PhD holders, among the most highly-skilled individuals in Canada, are retained and equipped for future careers. Elevate fellows will gain valuable research experience in areas of industrial and societal importance as well as training in non-technical professional skills.

Fellows must demonstrate a commitment to building bridges to a non-academic sector of provincial importance. This includes the Bio-economy and Clean Technologies, Advanced Health Technologies, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturing, Digital Media, Information and Communications Technology, or other new and emerging sectors. Eligible Partners must be based in Ontario and be prepared to host the fellow from time to time. They must also provide a minimum of $15,000 to MITACS towards the IFP.

Application Details:

Each fellowship is tenable for a one-year term, renewable for one additional year. Fellows will hold a PhD from a recognized degree-granting institution and either be residents of Ontario or citizens/permanent residents of Canada planning to move to Ontario. There are two programs under Elevate: 1) The Industrial Fellowships Program (IFP) is designed for PhD holders in any academic discipline who have an established collaboration with an Ontario-based non-academic partner in an Ontario priority sector. 2) The MITACS Strategic Fellowships Program (SFP) is designed for PhD holders any academic discipline who may not have a collaboration established with an Ontario based-partner in a sector of strategic priority but are interested in establishing such connections during their fellowship.

Applications must be submitted online on the MITACS website. You will need: Proposal Template, CV, academic supervisor CV or Form 100, two letters of support (please see specific Sponsor guidelines). For SFP, the academic supervisor must guarantee that the $10,000 supplement is available and identify the source. For IFP, an additional letter of support must be provided from the proposed non-academic partner. The letter should indicate that at least $15,000 is being made available to support the fellow.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM.

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
